Job Corps is a free education and training program that helps young people learn a career, earn a high school diploma or GED, and find and keep a good job. For eligible young people between the ages of sixteen and twenty-four, who also qualify as low income, Job Corp is an opportunity to acquire valuable craft skills that enable them to begin a career in masonry.
The International Masonry Institute conducts training programs at thirty-five Job Corps centers, employing BAC instructors that can provide both classroom and hands-on training in brick or tile. Instructors also teach students how to succeed in a work environment that demands punctuality, production and quality.
After a student completes the program, their instructor and the IMI Job Corps regional director, identify career options in construction. Ideally, students are placed as apprentices with a local BAC union and transition into a three-year apprenticeship program. IMI Job Corps staff continue to communicate with students for up to a year post-placement, to act as a resource and ensure their success.
JOB CORPS DIRECT REFERRAL
Local Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committees can pre-select candidates for pre-job training in Job Corps. These candidates must be between sixteen and twenty-four years old, and meet the Job Corps disadvantaged criteria. After completion of the program, the participant returns to the JATC for placement.
